R.I.P. To Some Legendary Musicians

Here is a SMALL tribute to those musicians who were BRILLIANT during their time on earth.  Here is the comprehensive list compiled by a blogger (thomas10) and a very good one at that.  I missed a bunch until I read this.

http://www.last.fm/user/thomas10/journal/2010/10/09/3yw5k0_famous_musicians_who_died_too_young_(dead_before_their_time)

…and NO I will not have Cobain or Winehouse on here because I think they were both groundbreaking but not to the level of the following. I wanted to single out my personal favorites and  I only attached videos to some as they were either a lesser known performance or just an incredible performance that needed to be shared…… And with all much due respect to the  musicians who died,  you will never be forgotten and we have your music to live through forever. ENJOY and remember the past is prologue.

ENJOY YOUR WEEK!!!!

It’s good to be the KING!!!!

Sitting, Listening, Wondering

As I listen to Jimi Hendrix’s LIVE version of “Hear My Train Comin,” I cannot begin to wonder what it was like to experience the aura of that concert back in the day.

I have been to numerous concerts on a wide variety spectrum such as Pink Floyd, TOOL, Rage Against the Machine, Phish, Widespread Panic and those are all unbelievable in their own right but to see Jimi Hendrix just GO OFF must have been amazing…..

I try and give the music of today a pass, but it just doesnt have much to offer in the depth category……YOU TRUE MUSIC LOVERS know what I mean…especially LIVE….music of today is like the difference between listening to a CD and listening to VINYL….say what you want but a vinyl record on a MacIntosh stereo with good speakers will send you into another dimension…

The first time I saw TOOL and said to myself “this has got to be a fuckin joke how fuckin incredibly deep they are and how the music just takes over your body”…..and the visuals didnt hurt either……its just an experience I encourage EVERYONE to partake……the music, energy level and pure sexual undertones are rarely matched by any artist today and from the past….

…….or that first Rage Against the Machine concert where 18000 fans were all jumping in unison and you could do nothing but move with them……

many have tried since then but many have failed….I will even go as far to say being at a Phish show was this kind of experience you could never dream of….the music just flows and and you catch yourself with a giant SMILE on your face….Pink Floyd goes without saying and you could throw in the Beastie Boys…

…..the reason i bring up those 3 or4 concert experiences is you could see one show one night and a completely different show the next…bands really dont do that….think Motley Crue used to have a script for what they said in between songs EVERY NIGHT….not that the show didnt kick ass but following them around the country could get boring…….anyhoo……back to the lecture at hand…..i dont have access to my vast array of music as I am working overnights so i am subject to whatever Pandora has to offer in the Quick Mix of my 20 plus music channels so with that said….I go from Jimi Hendrix’s amazing guitar to Pearl Jam’s “Even Flow” which is a great song but in the grand scheme of music it is a speck on the ass of great music……and call it too much clinging to the PAST but that is all I have now with what music is offering today……I have the past memories of good times with friends/family/coworkers/strangers to remember……music is still the most powerful tool around as it paints whatever picture you want it to……

ROCK ON

GOOD TIME ROCK!!!!!

“And my mind goes back to a girl I met some years ago who told me”

When people ask me my FAVORITE bands I always forget HEART probably because I am burned out on the classics by them after growing up with them and working at a Classic Rock station and hearing them all the time…..BUT they are FUCKING INCREDIBLE and these videos prove that this song, while overplayed is a CLASSIC.   Also, “Crazy On You” and “Magic Man” are from the DEBUT album by them so they started out with a bang…. I saw them in 1979 when I was 10 at the Day Of Rock and Roll in the Superdome and I remember Nancy strumming that guitar and Ann’s KILLER voice…..here ya go….BOTH videos KICK ASS

I posted this because of the sound quality and Roger Fisher (Guitar) really does look like Luke Skywalker playing guitar in the back.  And some lady has pointed out his camel toe too also….LMFAO

If you have just been to ONE Phish show in the past few years you have heard this and this is just a fucking JAM…..LOOK AT THE YEAR !!!!

Robert Palmer – Sneaking Sally Through The Alley (1974)

___________________________________________________________________________

The next THREE songs remind me of my friend Renee from LSU as we were in school together and this is what we have as our bond.  More importantly, this brings me back to my time in the ARMY where I was away from friends but made ONE friend who I just was able to get back in touch with through the power of facebook….that friend is Ted Martin who is a Florida Gator and I hate the Gators but not him. We made it through a tough time in our lives….every time I hear these songs from THIS show it reminds me of that time. Plus, its one of the BEST LIVE albums I have ever heard.  Depeche Mode at its PEAK!!!!

CHEERS to you Ted!

Listen to MORE Music that makes you move in mysterious ways….

Tip Your Friends, Tip Your Bartenders

Pause Rewind Replay

Yes this is me circa 1980 listening to album hour (not actually me)

I am not sure how to describe this but music really really turns me on…..it just has that effect on me……from Depeche Mode to Tool and everywhere in between if you undersatnd this you understand why I love music so much….

The other night I was driving and Pandora decided to play “Back In Black” by AC/DC and for some reason it took me back to the first time I heard it.  I have heard the song a million times and quite honestly its old to me, but the FIRST time I heard it was WRNO (Rock Of New Orleans) 99.5fm when I was like 11 years old.  It came on ALBUM HOUR which was midnight every Saturday night.  Album hour is WHY rock music of the 70s & 80s is regarded so highly today.  Imagine the DJ coming on at 12 to introduce the album with a little backstory then he would read the songs on the first side of the album then it would get quiet and the album would start.  you can’t do this anymore because you don’t have LPs anymore and you really don’t even have CDs anymore.  But think of hearing that little cracking album sound then the first heavy gongs of “Hells Bells”….then it just flows right into “Shoot to Thrill”…..JUST LISTEN to EVERY song and tell me this album doesn’t suck, especially to the long delay before song #2 on the second side of album to get the idea….

AC/DC – Back In Black

“‘Cause the walls start shaking
The earth was quakin’
My mind was achin’
And we were makin’ it and you “

Side one

  1. “Hells Bells” – 5:10
  2. “Shoot to Thrill” – 5:17
  3. “What Do You Do for Money Honey” – 3:33
  4. “Given the Dog a Bone” – 3:30
  5. “Let Me Put My Love into You” – 4:16

After the entire side of the album would play with no breaks, some commercials would play and then he would come on and intro second side which starts with 6 notes of Back in Black and so on….

Side two
  1. “Back in Black” – 4:14
  2. “You Shook Me All Night Long” – 3:30
  3. “Have a Drink On Me” – 3:57
  4. Shake a Leg” – 4:06
  5. Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution” – 4:15
WHAT A WAY TO END THIS CLASSIC ALBUM…..

Listening to songs even as overplayed as “You Shook Me All Night Long” on here really sound a lot different than wedged between two other overplayed Classic Rock songs.

Back to album hour…. It was an hour plus of the album played in its entirety for you to listen.  If you liked it, chances are you jumped on your Mongoose or Red Line and hit Warehouse Records and Tapes to buy it…THE NEXT DAY…..and it was vinyl so you had that giant cover to look at.

I explain this in such detail to paint you a picture of how music could really move you and not just be played to listen.  you had to absorb the music and what you did with it was your choice.  If you liked it, you kept if not you moved on…..

___________________________________________________

If anyone was lucky enough to see RUSH last year they went on their break about an hour into show then came onstage and played the entire Moving Pictures album from start to finish in order like on the album. And they played the songs EXACTLY like on the album so when they played YYZ it was the 4 and 1/2 minute song not the long one with extended drum solo. Then they left the stage and took a break then came back and finished show.  It was EPIC.  To be there was something to marvel as it took me back to album hour.  Word is Metallica is playing the entire Black Album start to finish this year at Download Festival in June 2012.

This album is just to….frankly FUCKING AWESOME!!!!…..from the FIRST notes of “Tom Sawyer” to the fade out of “Vital Signs” this album is just PERFECT in every regard……even the album cover is legendary….LOOK AT IT…Released in 1981

RUSH – Moving Pictures

2.Witch Hunt”  4:46

3.“Vital Signs” 4:47

And I had to add a LIVE version of “YYZ” due to the Brazilian crowd singing along to a song with no lyrics plus they are jumping like fools…ITS INCREDIBLE….”Vital Signs” because its such an underrated song…

“Vital Signs” because its such an underrated song….

I hope this was as much fun for you as it was for me…..I want everyone to get that same feeling you get when you are touched by music.  There are not many CLASSIC albums out now and between the years of 1978 to around 1984, some of the BEST albums were released and to this day are still considered the greatest EVER….

Next time I tackle Motley Crue “Shout At The Devil” and Metallica “And Justice For All”

______________________________________________

Until then…..and I love this song because I was always a Bon Scott AC/DC fan but you cannot deny the power of Brian’s voice on the album Back In Black….just listen to how raw “Problem Child” is and the end is STILL killer how it starts over….

AC/DC – Problem child

_______________________________________

“I love those high school women….I get older and they stay the same age”

After RUSH I really wanted to stop but I had to include TWO albums that stand out JUST because of how bad the production value is…..the bad production value actually makes them stand out to me and why they are my favorites by these two bands….

The first album is the second album by Motley Crue titled Shout at the Devil and quite honestly could be my all time favorite metal album.  Of course, Iron Maiden’s Number of the Beast, Black Sabbath’s FIRST and Pantera “Cowboys from Hell’ might argue with me….I remember going to the bowling alley in 8th grade listening to this and just being astounded at how heavy it was….just brutal…and its the Crüe so its tight even as their second album.

“Well in the heat of the night…

You went and blackened my eyes..

I hold back, go back, go back…

And I’m comin’ your way”

HAVE A GREAT 2012!!!!!!

WORST MUSIC of 2011…..and maybe EVER!!!!..You Decide

Worst Women of 2011
(L to R) FAKE, Douche, Whore, Cunt, Pig and Clueless

With all due respect to other WORST of 2011 blogs, THIS is the REAL pathetic list of pathetic music from 2011.  A few things we have learned about music these days:

  • The whole “New Rock” or whatever you call what stations like the Buzz who play Nirvana and Linkin Park are, is DEAD and needs to go away.
  • I think we can agree that POP music has hit a wall especially with these gay repetitive club beat songs by Pitbull and so on.
  • Enough with these whole half rap / half melodic songs are they are just horrible.
  • And how many fucking rap songs need to be collaborations?
  • Country music is just not even worth mentioning.
  • Bands have officially run out of names when LMFAO, Cage The Elephant and Foster the People are on the charts.

And the list could be top 100 but lets narrow it down to 20 please. And these are really in NO particular order as I could not even try to corral this pile of shit into a blog.  My ears are bleeding as we speak.

1. How To Love – Lil Wayne

PULL YOUR DAMN PANTS UP YOU LOOK LIKE A DAMN FOOL!

I cannot understand why people buy this.  He is a mumbling dumbfuck with no talent yet blacks and whites flock to him like he is god.  A god of shitty ghetto talent who needs a belt.

2. Nicki Minaj - Super Bass

I know who the fuck you is….you is a dumbfuck

Just plain awful and they play it constantly…..the eye say it all about this dummy.

3. Mary J Blige – 25/8

Talk about OVERSTAYED her welcome…PFFT!

I mean really Mary J Blige could be the most overrated R&B / hip hop whatever of all time…..just because you are still around does  not make you good…..fucking loser.

4. Plies (feat. Jeremiah and Ludacris) – Just The Tip

Plies feat. Jeremih and Ludacris - "Just the Tip"This might be the worst song of all time…but with so many on this list….lets move on…..and why does every fucking loser rapper have to collaborate with someone else.  I long for the days of Public Enemy, Eric B & Rakim, Gangstarr and Tribe Called Quest where it was their song with NO ONE to tag along.  Make your own music rapper of today.  Oh thats right you can’t because you have to all sound alike and mumble.

5. Chris Brown – Look At Me Now
(feat. Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne)

This is very close as the reason why rap is just a big fucking joke now.

Do people think that irritating noises during songs are easy on the ears?

6. Enrique Iglesias, Usher, Lil Wayne – Dirty Dancer

Because you need to repeat the chorus over and over and over and over and over again to get your point across.  Pitbull’s Dr Pepper commercial thinks you repeat the chorus too much…..by the way I think Pitbull wants to “Have a Real Good Time” according to that commercial.

7. Wiz Khalifa – Black And Yellow

More repetitive beats over a lame rap.  He is a Snoop clone.  GO FIGURE….and he smokes pot and wears a baseball cap, tattoos and wears pants below his ass……REAL ORIGINAL

The Future of America Looks Like This….AWESOME

8. Metallica with Lou Reed – Mistress Dread

Because the first thing I think of when listening to THRASH metal is Lou Reed talking over it. THIS IS SO BAD…..Metallica has OFFICIALLY jumped the shark with this one.

ST ANGER thinks this sucks.

9. Carlos Santana (feat. Daughtry) – Photograph

This is a TOTAL BUTCHERING of a Def Leppard CLASSIC but then again this album is just a disgrace to the career of Santana and the other bands who are on this album…..

10. Willow – 21st Century Girl

YO DUMBFUCK!!!

Fucking another one of Will Smith’s kids here to ruin something.   First, it was Jaden ruining the Karate Kid, now its dumb Willow ruining what is left of pop music with this garbage.

and next is from 2010 but it has crossover shittiness to it

11. Justin Bieber & Jaden Smith - Never Say Never

Hey WILL, STOP PUTTING YOUR DUMB KIDS OUT IN PUBLIC

12. Kreayshawn – Gucci Gucci

I can’t even comment on this as its so bad it just makes me angry.  And laugh at those who buy it.  She looks like what it would look like if Lady Gaga fucked Amy Winehouse with a strap on and a kid came out somehow. This has record company creation written ALL OVER IT.

13. Soulja Boy – First Day Of School

Look at this fucking flunkie with another song from 2010 song but Soulja Boy is just plain the worst.  Right next to Lil Wayne’s overrated ass.

and this CRAP is why he is the worst…..What the fuck is he saying?

BONUS: Soulja Boy – Crank That

14.  Karmin – Crash Your Party

This just has everything that is wrong with radio…the catchy beat, middle song bad rap and all of the other repetitive crap.  The distorted voice. Gee thanks record companies how do you sleep at night?….TYPICAL ONE HIT WONDER.

15. Kim Kardashian – Turn It Up

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?

I wish that sunburn would have killed that trashbag.

Reminds me of this DUMBFUCK!!!!!

16. Kim Zolciak – Google Me

This is WHY the Real Housewives of (Insert City Here) are the worst…..This pathetic loser cannot sing yet because he is on TV they let her….KILL ME NOW!!!

I swear this is awful beyond words

17. Maroon 5 – Moves Like Jagger

(feat. Xtina dumbfuck Aguilera)

Why is Adam Levine shirtless in the video?  Ok we get it Adam you have tattoos to be badass but you whistle like a fucking fruit cup and regardless of how catchy this song is, it still has that gay “MOOOOVES like Jagger” part which nulls the rest.

18. LMFAO – Sexy and I know it

These guys are just plain horrible.  I mean the name of your band is “LMFAO” like you really thought hard about that.  Thanks record company geniuses for scouting that one.  And “Party Rock Anthem” is one of the worst songs of all time so I didn’t even include it.  Your ears will thank me.

19. Rebecca Black – Friday

This is pretty bad but others on this list are MUCH MUCH worse.

This cunt is the worst EVER and her constant Madonna ripoffs are old.  This is exactly like when “Like A Prayer” came out.  What is next for Gaga a black and white sex book?

And what is that JUDAH Judaaaah ahah….whatever crap…..UGH…..just not even good at all…..

And its looking pretty bad RIGHT out of the gate for 2012 as this is what Linkin Park has to offer.  I think the “New Rock” genre is done…what do you think?

Linkin Park – The Catalyst
